Number puzzle · The playing guide

2048.
A small board. A little forward thinking.

2048 is a sliding number puzzle. Move the whole board in one direction, combine equal tiles and work towards a 2048 tile. Puzzle Batch keeps the classic game untimed, so you can think through each move.

01 / The essentials

How to play 2048.

  1. Use the arrow keys on a keyboard, or swipe on a phone or tablet. Each move slides the tiles in that direction.
  2. Two matching tiles merge into one tile with twice the value. A new tile appears after a move that changes the board.
  3. Reach 2048 to complete the classic goal. You can keep playing after reaching it. The run ends when the board is full and no adjacent matching tiles can merge.

02 / Find your rhythm

A few ways to get started.

Give your largest tile a home

Try keeping your largest tile in one corner. Build a descending row beside it so smaller tiles can feed into larger ones.

Look at the next move

Before a swipe, check whether it opens space or strands a useful pair. A move that scores immediately can still leave a difficult board.

Keep room to work

Empty cells give you choices. When space becomes tight, focus on bringing equal tiles together rather than moving your largest tile around.

A few useful answers.
